Opening Reception Friday Evening, October 7, 2016, 5-8 pm
Lanning Gallery in Sedona, Arizona marks its 30th Anniversary with a special celebration that opens with a reception 1st Friday, September 2nd, from 5-8. This milestone comes after decades of hard work and rewarding adventures on the part of owner Peggy Lanning, under whose guidance the gallery has grown in both square footage and reputation, a reputation that now extends to both national and international collectors.
It is a gallery that collectors have sought out in Sedona. “I have been collecting art for approximately twenty-five years,” notes client Steve Marcus. “I had the great fortune of visiting Sedona for the first time in 1993 and meeting Peggy Lanning. I live for most of the year in New York City and spend winters in Florida so traveling to Sedona was always a special time with the added allure of being able to see what new treasures Lanning Gallery had in store for me to see and hopefully purchase. Through the wonderful people at Lanning Gallery I have been exposed to, and have been collecting, some wonderful artists’ works: Alfred Rogoway, Bill Rane, Alexandra Nechita, Ted CoConis and many others. Peggy and her staff have been an integral part of my appreciation and love for art and made it so exciting and fun to become a collector.”
Collectors Barry and Carmen Libman note that, “The many outstanding works that enhance our houses in Sedona and Phoenix are a testament to [the gallery’s] fine taste and our long relationship. It is difficult to visit Lanning Gallery without encountering at least one piece that we would like to own.”
Peggy Lanning and Gallery Director Isabelle Cozart share input on which artists they select for the gallery. “The work has to have heart,” Cozart explains. “It doesn’t matter what type of art it is: paintings, sculpture, glass, abstract or representational, you can tell if an artist is skilled enough to convey the core of their being through their creative expression. And that, undeniably, translates to the viewer.”
Collectors Claire and Milan Jordan have made both of Peggy Lanning’s galleries, Lanning Gallery and Turquoise Tortoise Gallery, part of their “Sedona experience” every time they’ve visited for the last ten years. “Peggy has gathered an outstanding group of people to work with at the galleries ... We have become good friends with everyone,” Milan notes. “Every time my wife and I visit Sedona, we stop by to see what is new in the galleries as well as to have some social time. ... One of our favorites is [jeweler] Michael Grant at Lanning Gallery. You will be hard pressed to find an artist of his caliber who combines lapidary skills working raw turquoise to a beautiful finish with outstanding silver and gold work. His rolled turquoise beads are second to none.”
The “30th Anniversary Celebration” opens at Lanning Gallery with champagne and chocolates to celebrate the festive evening.
Hozho is also hosting Red Rock Quilters during the 1st Friday celebration on October 7th. The talented Sedona group presents Opportunity Quiltfest 2017 as they tour the Sedona area with their extraordinary “Animals of the Southwest” Native American-inspired quilt and sell raffle tickets for a May 2017 drawing (only $1 p/ticket) to benefit a number of local charities for children and adults with special needs, in foster care/adoption or who are ill. Stop by and support this worthy, hard-working and talented group.
