It’s that time of year again! On 1st Friday, December 7th, an opening reception from 5-8 p.m. offers collectors and visitors the opportunity to meet master jeweler Michael Grant and enjoy an Artist Talk at 5:45 that evening.
The holiday season always brings an unveiling of this extraordinary jeweler’s latest works and this year Grant has raised the bar higher than ever. His recent new collection of rings, cuffs and earrings created from a rare find of Castle Dome turquoise (mined in 1962) has been met with great enthusiasm and now, for the holidays, Grant unveils masterful interpretations of his signature “Egyptian” necklace design created from this gorgeous blue Castle Dome turquoise, 18k gold and one with diamonds as well. These are extraordinary pieces that elevate turquoise from a southwest style to a contemporary artistic expression.
“The Castle Dome mine was very near the Sleeping Beauty mine and the turquoise is a real look-alike for it,” Grant explains. “There is very little matrix; it’s a real pure blue color and because of that it sits really well with gold.” The open pit mine itself ceased operation in the early 1970s and has since been filled in and replanted with native grasses. Finding gem grade rough turquoise from the mine had always been a challenge and with the current reliance on uncovering available caches of the blue turquoise, it is even a rarer find. For Michael Grant, it is only this high-quality all-natural turquoise that he will work with.
In addition to these pieces, new pendants, necklaces, rings, cuffs and more will be presented which include lapis, sugilite and exquisite turquoise from a variety of mines. All, as always, are all-natural and hand-cut by Michael Grant himself.
“Turquoise Master Michael Grant” runs through December 24th.
